Howdy!

My name is Georgina Chadderton and I use the pronouns she/they. I'm a freelance cartoonist, lover of dogs, neurodivergent and plant enthusiast living on Kaurna Country (Adelaide), South Australia. I mostly draw autobio comics but also dabble in fiction. I love science and language and learning about new things. I’m queer (but still working out the specifics) and have quite a small head (a fact constantly pointed out to me by my partner). I love drawing pretty much anything except cars. I'm really terrible at drawing cars.

I’m currently working on my debut graphic novel, Oh, Brother, a memoir about growing up with my younger brother Robert, who is autistic and has an intellectual disability. The book is due to be published by Penguin Random House in 2024. You can find out more about the project and read a few sample pages here.

When not working on my own comics, I have the best job: teaching others how to make their own comics! I run a variety of workshops in comic-making, art and drawing skills for folks of all ages. I’ve run workshops at writers' festivals, Book Week events, libraries, schools, comic book stores, writers' centres, and organisations such as Autism SA and Carclew Arts.

If you are keen to book me for a session in your library or school, you can find out more information about my workshops here (there is also a contact form for bookings on that page).

I am represented by Annabel Barker at Annabel Barker Agency. Please send any publishing inquiries to her!

Other Things

I love to self-publish my own mini-comics and zines (you can find many of them on my online store) but I've also been published in Australian, American and European comics anthologies. I have had short comics in On Dit, in Voiceworks Magazine and on The Nib and had comics published through Amplified Press.

I took part in the Comic Art Workshop in 2015, 2017 and 2019, was the recipient of the Colin Thiele Creative Writing Scholarship through Carclew in 2016 and was the inaugural recipient of the Ian Wilson Memorial Fellowship through the May Gibbs Children's Literature Trust in 2017. I've also received grants from Carclew Arts to attend artist residencies at Milktooth project space in Perth and 100 Story Building in Melbourne. During 2020, I was artist in residence at MOD., making comics reacting to the COVID-19 pandemic for their Life Interrupted online exhibition.

I have appeared at the Women in Comics Festival, Inkers and Thinkers Comics Symposium, National Young Writers' Festival, Emerging Writers' Festival, Ubud Writers' Festival and Supanova Pop Culture Convention. I've twice been nominated for an Express Media Award for best comic in an Express Media publication. I was also a finalist for the Frankie Magazine Good Stuff Awards in 2017 and the Channel 7 Young Achievers Award in 2019. My comic Harry Potter and My Childhood Obsession was shortlisted for a Ledger award (for excellence in Australian comics) in 2017.

I am a co-founder of Adelaide-based zine festival Zina Warrior Print Fest, which has been held 5 times. I was also the co-organiser and starter-upperer of Comics With Friends and Strangers, a monthly comics sketch group for adults that ran from 2013-2021.

I co-founded and directed the Award-winning Papercuts Comics Festival, an independent comics festival in Adelaide, South Australia, celebrating comics and graphic novels. Papercuts has been held biannually since 2019.

In addition to my personal work, I have illustrated informational comics for corporate clients such as Conscious Cities, Bloom Well Being, MOD. and Credit Union SA.

When I’m not drawing comics

I like to spend my time reading comics, drinking cups of tea, op-shopping, experimenting with art mediums, surrounding myself with blankets, eating pizza & frozen food, re-watching my favourite shows and playing roller derby.
