What is Teen Zine Club?

Zines (pronounced zeens) are self-published original works that have a limited circulation.

Teen Zine Club is a drop-in style art & zine making workshop run by seasoned zinester and comics maker, George Rex (a.k.a me). Each month there will be a different zine making activity for participants to try but they are also welcome to bring along their own zines to work on during the session.

All materials for the workshop are supplied.
Session are drop-in style, so don’t worry too much if you arrive a little late or need to leave a little early.
Teen Zine Club is for young artists aged 12-17.

Why zines?
I’ve been a zine maker for most of my life (even before I knew the term “zine”) and what I love about zines the most is that I can use them to communicate things about myself, my feelings and what I like. As someone who struggles a lot with expressing themselves with spoken words, I was drawn to making zines, where I could write and draw and share things about myself in a way that felt very empowering. I also LOVE the feeling I get when I finish making one - nothing beats the feeling of creating something that didn’t exist before. My love of zines has seen me make over 30 self-published works, attending many many zine fairs all over Australia and being the co-founder and organiser of the Kaurna (Adelaide)-based zine fair, Zina Warrior Print Fest.

If you’re a library or community centre based on Kaurna (Adelaide) looking to host this style of monthly zine workshops, send me a message via my online contact form. I’d love to run more Zine Club style workshops!
